Welcome to Jane Awesome!

I've been staring at lists of addresses of radio stations and media outlets for music reviews. At some point in that process, emailing people and checking 'zines to make sure they still exist, I realized that I hadn't made any news updates since February! Jane and I have been extraordinarily busy, but I imagine that's not gonna change any time soon.

Much has happened since February (of course). The Little Bicycles album sounds great, looks great, and is awaiting arrival at a store near you on April 24th. Thank you Australian Cattle Gods and thank you NAIL and Carrot Top (the distribution company, not the comedian) for helping us spread our love nationwide.

On the business side of things, Jane has a brand new sales & use tax I.D. number and we're ready to use it! I guess that means I will spend the next few weeks on the phone and stuffing envelopes. Ah the glamerous life of a record label. Glorified gofers, that's what we are. At least the gorgeous packages (if I do say so myself) are stuffed and almost ready to be sent.

About our still-on-the-back-burner compliation (#1). Sometime before the SXSW craziness began, Jane and I had to decide what to focus on. The comp, or the crazy little party some of my friends throw every year (Fuck by Fuck You, you might have heard of it) being hosted at mi casa and the Little Bicycles release. So obviously FXFU and the LB won! Keep posted, though, because after Broken Hearts and Tired Legs is safely in the hands of radio stations and reviewers everywhere, I will herd all necessary cats into my comp.

And then it too will rule.

One last worry that is in the front of my brain. "What to do about money"? We haven't sent off the LB CD yet, and I'm already drooling over other Awesome Janes who need to be heard. But I don't have the dinero to do anything about it! So if you have money, and think women musicians, artists, and superheroins are awesome... If you therefore want to help us discover and promote some of them, contact me and we'll figure something out. Sponsorship style. Seriously.

It's been crazy around here! The Little Bicycles are wrapping up their recording at The Typewriter Museum with Mr. B. Nelson, and not a moment too soon! Our street date is April 24th, and we're having a bike ride and CD Release party at a date and location yet to be determined. Stay posted for more info on that!

I'm finally getting around to thinking about the very first Jane Awesome compilation CD. It has to be done and in everyone's grubby little hands by SXSW, so it's becoming a priority issue. So far Jane would like to include The Little Bicycles (of course), One Eyed Doll, Ume, Adrian and the Sickness, Lozen, and Emily Sparks so far. And congratulations to Lozen, who are about to release a CD with our office-mates, Australian Cattle God Records. If you've got an awesome band who wants to start a relationship with us by being on our very first compilation ever, send us some info and we'll check it out. Even if you don't make it in a timely manner, you can still be considered for our very second compilation ever so don't talk yourself out of it.

OK, I'm starving and I smell enchiladas so that's all for now!

Our beginnings have begun. The exciting things to report are: that we exist, that we are going to release an album, and that our web site is at least partially up. We filed our D.B.A., got ourselves an opportunity to go into debt, and started talking to people about working with them and stuff.

I have a lot to tell you about us, but for now, here's more about our first release:
AWE001 - The Little Bicycles "Broken Hearts and Tired Legs"

The Little Bicycles have been recording industriously at Biking Fish Studios in East Austin. Mr. B. Nelson, analog recording guru some of you know from the infamous Sweatbox Studios, has tracked the lovely trio onto 1" tape, and provided us with a rough mix of the first 8 songs on a cassette tape. Classic Bryan. They are moving it over to the Typewriter Museum to finish things up, and although the album isn't finished yet, we think the roughs sound so fantastic that we're pimpin' them already. And with some success! The Little Bicycles appeared in England as MookyChick.com's MP3 free download of the week. Check out what they have to say about our favorite 2-wheelers.

Bye for now,
Andrea Awesome
